Testing a Tamron SP 90mm f2.5.

I recently bought an old Tamron 90mm f2.5 Macro lens.
Yesterday I took it out for a spin behind the house.
I already have other macro lenses and at least my Kiron 105mm f2.5 is supposed to be better. It also reaches Macro magnification 1:1 all on its own.
The Tamron 90mm only reaches 1:2 so to get the magnification I need I added a 2 x teleconverter and also experimented with an additional 30mm extension-tube.
I do prefer the Kiron since it has that full 1:1 range, a little more distance being a 105 vs 90mm.
......Or at least I thought I did....
Combining the Tammy with the extension-tube and my old Panagor 2xTC made it perfectly usable.
I used the 30mm tube closest to the camera to get a good working ratio.
Minimum focusing distance is 140cm from the front glass and minimum distance is 20cm and almost macro magnification 2:1.
Not bad for an old 1:2 macro lens.
The distance is good enough for capturing flying bugs or frame bigger things like flowers and butterflies and the closeup is covering my needs. I rarely need more then 2:1 and if I do I could always add another extension-tube.
Here is a closeup of a dragonfly.
This is the full frame only downscaled to work on the web.
Click on it to get bigger sizes.

Here is another shot were I ended up behind and below this spider. I was stalking him stalking something else.
Not really the shot I was planning but it turned out quite nice.

I have to admit that I really like this lens.
